Mr. Hu studied law at Dalian Maritime University where he got his B.Sc. degree in nautical science, LL.M degree in maritime law and Ph.D. degree in shipping law. He did research on maritime law at University of Antwerp, Belgium as a visiting scholar (1994–1995) and on shipping law at Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium as a senior visiting professor (2001). He started practicing in maritime law in 1989. He specializes in collision, pollution, maritime personal injuries, salvage and wreck removal, bills of lading and charter parties, cargo claims, marine insurance, shipbuilding and repair, ship sale and purchase, multimodal transport and logistics, port operation, ship mortgage, shipping investment, shipping administration and policies.
He is an arbitrator of China Maritime Arbitration Commission, an arbitrator of Shanghai International Shipping Arbitration Commission, a member of Standing Directors of China Maritime Law Association and a member of Maritime Law Commission of All China Lawyers Association.
